236th American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
August 17-21, 2008

The Fall 2008 American Chemical Society (ACS) meeting will feature programs hosted by 31 technical divisions, 1 secretariat, 3 committees, and the ACS president. The meeting will include thematic programming on "Chemistry for Health: Catalyzing Translational Research."

Talks Given by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Institute for Integrated Catalysis

Electrocatalytic oxidation and production of hydrogen using cobalt and nickel complexes containing diphospine ligands with pendant nitrogen bases
Presented by Dan DuBois

Beakers Without Walls: Using Nanoscale Amorphous Solid Films to Study Supercooled Liquid Water and Aqueous Solutions
Presented by Bruce Kay

Hydrothermal Reactivity of Carbohydrates: Reaction Pathways to Carbon Nanospheres
Presented by Yongsoon Shin

Diffusion and Rotation of Alkoxy Species on Rutile TiO2(110)
Presented by Zhenrong Zhang

Symposium in Memory of Mike White

Professor Mike White, the Director of the Institute for Integrated Catalysis died suddenly and unexpectedly on August 31, 2007. A symposium is being held at ACS to honor his contributions to the scientific community. Mike Henderson is one of the organizers of this multi-day symposium.

Some of the talks include

  • Use of ultrahigh field nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to study the surface structure and catalytic properties of poorly crystalline gamma-Al2O3
    Presented by Chuck Peden
  • Electrocatalytic oxidation and production of hydrogen using cobalt and nickel complexes containing diphospine ligands with pendant nitrogen bases
    Presented by Dan DuBois
  • Understanding practical catalysts using a surface science approach: The importance of strong interaction between BaO and Al2O3
    Presented by Janos Szanyi
  • First-principles investigation of NOx uptake on the gamma-alumina supported BaO clusters and overlayers
    Presented by Donghai Mei
  • Partial oxidation of alcohols on TiO2(110) and (WO3)3/TiO2(110) model catalysts
    Presented by Zdenek Dohnálek
  • Surface Photochemical Adventures with Mike White
    Presented by Mike Henderson
