Dr. Giulia Galli's research activity addresses quantum simulations of systems and processes relevant to condensed matter physics, physical chemistry, materials science, and nanoscience. Most recently she was a professor of chemistry and physics at the University of California, Davis. Previously, she was the head of the Quantum Simulations Group (QSG) at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The focus of her work at QSG was to predict, validate, and understand materials properties through the development and application of predictive computational techniques, particularly in the area of quantum simulations.

Dr. Galli is a fellow of the American Physical Society, and has served as chair of its Division of Computational Physics. She is the recipient of a Department of Energy award of excellence in technical computing and the Science and Technology Award from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She is currently chair of the Extreme Physics and Chemistry of Carbon Directorate of the Deep Carbon Observatory. In addition, she is serving as a scientific advisory board member at the Max-Planck-Institut für Festkörperforschung Stuttgart.

Dr. Galli earned her PhD in physics from the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste, Italy. She held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as the IBM Research Division in Zurich, Switzerland. Galli joined the University of Chicago faculty in 2013.
