Mike Rinker Quoted in London's The Guardian

(November 2013)

Mike Rinker, the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy sector manager at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and a member of PNNL's Institute for Integrated Catalysis, was quoted in The Guardian about fuel cell use in Al Gore's London headquarters. Rinker said, "Combined heat and power fuel cell systems can help commercial buildings with high energy demands reap significant savings in energy cost and use. We anticipate this type of system could reduce the fuel costs and carbon footprint of a commercial building by approximately 40%, compared with conventional electricity and heat use." Fuel cells and the associated electrodes are a long-term target of PNNL's fundamental and applied research. For example, PNNL is testing 15 commercial fuel cell systems to assess and address durability and market transformation.
